Every 25 October, the MDS Alliance and its member groups around the world unite to raise awareness of Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) – a rare type of blood cancer where the bone marrow does not produce enough healthy blood cells. MDS varies in severity. Some forms may remain mild and undetected for years, while others are more aggressive and can significantly affect a patient’s quality of life.
For MDS World Awareness Day 2024, our focus extends beyond just sharing information about the signs and symptoms of MDS. We are also emphasising the important role that MDS patient organisations play in supporting both patients and caregivers.
These groups offer essential resources, guidance and emotional support that can make a meaningful difference in managing the disease. Additionally, patients, caregivers and healthcare professionals will share their insights on how early involvement with support organisations can improve patient experiences.
How can you GET INVOLVED?
You can help drive awareness about MDS and the organisations dedicated to assisting its patients by sharing our materials on your social media. Together, we can ensure much-needed help, including useful information on MDS and its symptoms, is available for the community.
When sharing, posting and commenting about MDS World Awareness Day on social media, don’t forget to add the hashtags:
#MDSWAD2024 #United4MDS #ThinkMDS
Remember to also urge others to check our MDS Alliance members list (https://www.mds-alliance.org/member-organizations/) or to seek out patient organisations from other regions closest to them. With our joint efforts, every MDS patient should be able to find a support group that best meets their needs and have them involved early in their care and treatment journeys!
